Marina Bay is the result of an ambitious land reclamation project that was started in the 1970s by the Singapore government, coupled with extensive urban transformation efforts. 2010 was a landmark year for the area, with the completion of iconic skyscrapers like the Marina Bay Sands and The Helix bridge, and the unveiling of Gardens by the Bay a couple years after.

For me, my fascination with Marina Bay is not so much about the built environment itself, but more of how it has served as a canvas for electrifying night shows, national celebrations and extravagant firework displays. The kaleidoscopic display of colours juxtaposed against the darkness of the night sky provided inspiration to this artwork, which is my love medley to Marina Bay.

About the ‘One Degree North’ collection

At only 728km², Singapore is one of the smallest countries in the world. What we don’t have in land area, we more than make up for it through conservation of our heritage, preservation of natural landscapes and enhancement through the built environment. The ‘One Degree North’ collection is inspired by memorable landmarks around Singapore, each telling a story about the area/landmark and also its significance to Singapore. Decipher where the coordinates on each artwork refers to, and you will know the painting title.

Each painting is created in my signature contemporary and tactile style, and can be displayed in various permutations depending on your room decor needs.
