Singapore E.volution: Solo exhibition by Kelly Ser

Singapore E.volution: Solo exhibition by Kelly Ser

A representation of Singapore’s most iconic symbols, landmarks and culture, this showcase at Tangs from 1 Feb to 31 Mar 2023 features Singaporean artist Kelly Ser’s contemporary take on familiar national symbols such as the Joo Chiat Shophouse, Durian and Tiger Beer bottle, and landmarks such as Sentosa, Marina Bay and Botanic Gardens.

Presenting 4 of her most iconic collections, expect the unexpected with her contemporary and kaleidoscopic renditions, which promises to make viewers take a second look.

What does 1956 and 1932 have to do with the Durian and Tiger Beer? The subtle inclusion of historical tales within her works will leave the viewer pondering the historical significance of each iconic symbol and guarantees and “Ah-ha” moment once deciphered.

Eating is a national hobby, and Kelly celebrates the craftsmanship of our hawkers through her light-hearted incorporation of modern culinary techniques that is both unexpected and witty.

With the recent arrival of her newborn, she took inspiration from children playrooms to paint her hopes for the next generation of Singaporeans. The vibrant strokes and colour blocks are symbolic of a childlike view of the world, and her wish for the next generation to never lose their childlike outlook of the world – always full of curiosity, and to be their own positive light in life regardless of the circumstances.
